Revolutionized Treatment for “Double Chin”
NVMC is excited to offer a revolutionized treatment for the Submental Fat, AKA-Double Chin. Sometimes, even with diet and exercise the unwanted fullness beneath your chin may not go away, it could make you appear older or heavier than you actually are.
KYBELLA is a new FDA approved, non-invasive alternative to liposuction. Kybella is injectable deoxycholic acid which is normally produced by the gallbladder to break down fat. Kybella physically destroys fat cells, once aesthetic results are achieved, further treatment is not expected. Fat cleared from the treatment area is processed through the body’s natural metabolism. It takes about 30 minutes in office to do a series of small injections into the submental fat. Two sessions of injections spaced about 6 weeks apart gives dramatic reduction in the double chin. Results are PERMANENT with no down time.
What to expect after your treatment…
For most patients, downtime occurred most commonly after the first treatment session. You should be able to resume your normal daily activities, but are likely to have swelling, so keep your social plans and work commitments in mind when scheduling your appointment. Mild discomfort, numbness, redness, areas of harness (induration), and bruising are most common side effects but usually resolve within a week. Apply ice to the treatment area as needed for about 10-30 minutes after the procedure.
A chemical peel is one of the least invasive ways to improve the appearance of the skin. Sun exposure, acne, or just getting older can leave skin tone uneven, wrinkled, spotted or scarred. Patients can experience dramatic results with deeper peels. Face, neck, chest and hands are common treatment areas.
- Decrease fine lines, age spots and hyper-pigmentation
- Decrease acne and inflammation
- Improves skin tone and texture
- Minimal down time
Patients are usually instructed to come in 15 minutes before their scheduled appointment time for an application of topical anesthesia to minimize discomfort during the procedure. The skin is then thoroughly cleansed and prepped with alcohol. A proprietary blend of acid is applied to the skin and allowed to soak in for a few minutes. The solution is then washed from the face and a series of soothing and healing ointments are applied. There is little or no pain after the peel, but there may be some swelling, tightness and redness. The skin will turn reddish brown in 2 to 3 days, become crusty, and then flake and peel over the next few days. Patients MUST stay out of the sun and DILIGENTLY use sunscreen and moisturizer after the procedure to prevent premature peeling and sun damage to regenerating skin.
Two to three weeks before the peel all patients must use sunscreen and daily moisturizer. Some patients will need to begin preparing their skin by daily use of tretinoin (Retin-A), a topical medicine usually used to treat acne. This skin care regimen will help the skin peel more evenly, speed healing after the peel, and may reduce the chance of infection and other complications, especially uneven color changes in the skin.
Dysport® is the latest cosmetic injectable approved by the FDA to treat facial wrinkles. As we age, dynamic wrinkles form in the upper regions of our face. Dynamic wrinkles include those lines across the forehead (horizontal rhytids), around the eyes (crow’s feet), and between the eyebrows (glabella).
Dysport® works by treating specific, wrinkle-causing facial muscles in order to eliminate the dynamic wrinkles. In the proper hands Dysport® can provide a very natural appearing and dramatic improvement in your appearance. Dysport® treatments are performed in the comfort of our office. There is no down time with this procedure, and you can return to your regular daily activities immediately.
Like Botox Cosmetic®, Dysport® is an injectable form of botulinum toxin. Exactly how the two wrinkle-relaxers differ is not fully understood. Initial reports suggest that Dysport® may act quicker. Botox Cosmetic® takes three to five days to work, while Dysport® seems to work within one to two days. In some cases, wrinkles begin to fade as soon as 24 hours after receiving Dysport® treatment. This rapid response could be the deciding factor for a woman or man looking to improve their appearance before a big social event or meeting.
What’s more, the Botox Cosmetic® alternative may last longer than its predecessor. Some studies have shown that Dysport® injections may keep wrinkles at bay for six months or more, as opposed to the approximate 3-4 month timeframe associated with Botox Cosmetic
The Restylane family (Lyft, Silk, Restylane) and Juvéderm family (Ultra, Ultra-Plus, Voluma, Volbella) are injectable gels that add volume and fullness to the skin to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds. The gel is made from stabilized hyaluronic acid, specifically formulated to act like your body’s own hyaluronic acid. The products work instantly with little to no down time to help you achieve the youthful appearance you want. The dermal fillers are versatile enough to treat several types of wrinkles including laugh lines (nasolabial folds), marionette lines, lipstick lines and lines between eyebrows (glabellar area). Dermal filler will also add beautiful fullness to lips, tear troughs and cheeks.
What differentiates the fillers is the average size of the hyaluronic acid particles. The larger particle fillers provide more volume and are useful for correcting deeper folds or adding volume to depleted, saggy areas. The smaller particle fillers are perfect for fine lines to smooth away superficial wrinkles without adding much volume. During your consultation Dr. McNeil will decide which product is right for you.
What to expect during your treatment:
Before treatment avoid using aspirin, NSAIDs (such as ibuprofen), St. John’s wort or high doses of vitamin E supplements. These agents may increase bruising and bleeding at the injection site. You should tell Dr. McNeil if you have previously suffered from facial cold sores, she will prescribe medication to minimize recurrence.
After a consultation, Dr. McNeil will help you choose the right product for the desired effects. The treatment area is then thoroughly cleansed and a topical anesthetic is applied. The clear gel is then injected into the treatment area using an ultra-fine needle to create the desired aesthetic effect.
