A simple in-office blood draw is done using special anticoagulant tubes, and then a therapeutic PRP centrifuge concentrates blood platelets within the plasma five-fold. This concentrated "Platelet Rich Plasma" (PRP) is buffered then activated with a calcium solution and infused using a 2-step process of dermal injections and micro-needling. A topical anesthetic is used making the procedure very comfortable. The activated PRP induces the release of 7 different growth factors and causes an inherent rise in human stem cells, jump starting the body's natural inflammatory process. Cell growth and division take place, new blood vessels are created. Regeneration and repair take place over the next 6 months, new collagen develops and matures then begins to shrink, tighten and strengthen the skin. Improvement in skin texture and tone is noticeable in 3 weeks. Full collagen regeneration requires 6 months. It is used in all areas of the face, neck, chest, and scalp including the thin, sensitive crepe-like skin around the eyes and the fine lines around the lips. This treatment is also highly beneficial in treating alopecia (hair loss), acne scars, surgical scars, stretch marks, and burns. To maximize results, a minimum of 3 treatments are recommended and are performed 6 weeks apart. Results vary but last up to 18 months in most patients. Bi-annual touch-up treatments will help to maintain results. 

Platelets work by causing an inflammatory reaction, therefore anti-inflammatory drugs should be avoided if possible for 2 weeks after the treatment. Additionally, smoking and alcohol consumption decrease stem cell release, and should be avoided for 2 weeks after treatment to maximize results. Mild swelling, redness, and tenderness are normal for a couple of days post treatment. Occasionally bruising or skin discoloration occurs which will resolve in about 1 week. Home care with professional cosmeceuticals is advised and Dr. McNeil will create a customized skin care regimen for each client. A gentle enzyme cleanser, hydrating Vitamin C serum and protection with sunscreen are all vital to the healing process. Retinols, exfoliates and harsh lighteners should be avoided for a few days after treatment. Hair restoration clients will be prescribed a Zinc shampoo, topical minoxidil, oral medication and/or supplementation customized for each individual patient.
